Special Permit Dilemma
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:15:25 PM »
Just posting to vent. Didn't expect to draw Toutle Quality Bull Archery tag with only 2 points and learned today that I was drawn. Normally I would be ecstatic, but I just found out two wks ago (after submitting my apps) that I will be working six 12 hour days in Anacortes from July through October with little chance at taking vacation time. I don't want to just take the points since it will take me years longer to draw again and who knows what the population will look like then. So that's just my luck, whether good or bad I don't know at this point. Will just pray I can get some time off and am super thankful that I know the unit really well!

I think most people would feel a bad cold coming on....

We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

With only two points if you dont get a chance to hunt i wouldnt be all that upset! With ten points and your situation i can see being ticked off... But even if you only get to hunt 1 or 2 days with two points who cares

Yup, I would not mention one word or I would just tell him I have a surgery scheduled that can't be rescheduled, heck, I tell him my mother in-law died or anything I can think off.  GO HUNTING!!!!!

Yeah, go with the surgery...say it is for a gall bladder removal or something.  Technically it would be true, because you would be performing a removal by 'surgical' means on an elk.

So how do you know that you got a Toutle tag it always says draw not run yet. The only draw that ran is the antler less.

Elkkillin: call in, the draw has been run but not showing online. It took me ten points to draw the tag two years ago, so I had no inclination tht I would be drawn this year. Thought my 8 bull points and 9 quality deer would hold up better, but no dice for either of those. I'm going to do all I can to get some time off for it, especially now that I have hunted and scouted and camped all over that unit. I know it's not a terrible problem to have, especially comparing it to those who haven't drawn a tag this year, but it is still a stressful one for me.

I know this doesn't help much:

At least you have hunted it before so if you end up eating the tag it won't be as bad.

You'll have a good knowledge of your hunt area so you'll have an effective short hunt

And finally...at least it isn't mudflow or nooksack   :sry:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Doesn't that tag allow for a late hunt as well?  You should still be able to hunt the later portion of the tag with the schedule you stated.
 :dunno:
Might be mistaken but I thought there was a late portion for Toutle archery.
In God we trust, all others bring cash.

Do not say, Why were the old days better than these? For it is not wise to ask such questions.

Over a two point Toutle tag?

Been there.  I drew a peaches rifle tag (the later tag, which isn't at all as good as the early tag) with 2 points during my first year of law school.  I just hunted as much as I could, passed up a few elk for the first couple days, and wacked a spike on the 3rd and final day I had to hunt.  With so few points, just chalk it up to good luck and make the best of it.
